Potentially very exciting news for German readers: The new Lustiges Taschenbuch Premium is out - and it collects the first four issues of PKNA along with a few bonus stories, some of which have never been published in German before!

Now, how awesome would it be to have an official German translation of the PKNA series? I know the series was originally cancelled after issue #12, but if there's enough interest in these premium books, Germany might actually see the series continue past that point. They might even finally do the whole series!

So if you're German, hurry out and buy this thing! Let's show Disney that there's a market for our favorite series in Germany, and that there's good reason to continue the series past this first book.

Heck, if Germany starts selling PKNA again, it might spread to other countries as well. And I know of quite a few European countries where the fans were disappointed when the series ended too soon.

Also, here's a little treat that a fan drew my attention to: The Secret Origin of the Duck Avenger - not the avenger we know, but one that was made as an attempt to introduce the character to American audiences.

As a fan of the Duck Avenger, the first thing you'll probably notice is that everything is just incredibly, horribly wrong. Donald is called on by his uncle Ludvig von Drake to battle the evil Zondarrians who have stolen the Universal Code from Earth... It's all pretty silly.

But it's interesting to read, and I've actually been looking for these comics for years, after having read the first part as a child. So a huge thanks to the anonymous poster for bringing it to my attention.

Actually - and I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this - these entirely silly comics are probably the main reason this site is called "PKNA - Adventures of the Duck Avenger" rather than "PKNA - Adventures of Superduck". Disney has changed the official name of the character several times, so it was hard to determine what was the proper translation when we started out.

I preferred the sound of The Duck Avenger, so that's what I went with. Looking back, I actually suspect that this American mini-comic is the only time Paperinik was actually called by the Duck Avenger name in an official Disney comic. Since then, Disney seems to have settled on calling him Superduck.

Still, we're more than 30 comics in now, so it seems a bit late to change the name of the main character. Calling him Superduck at this stage would just seem weird (to me, at least). Plus, I just plain like the Duck Avenger name. So I think we'll keep it.

Even if the comic it came from IS hilariously silly. Remember to check it out, by the way. :)

(Feel completely free to just ignore the end pages of MMMM, by the way. Apparently someone at Disney decided that the whole series was just TOO bad-ass, and some silly "Oh-wait-it's just-a-film"-framing device was added. Far as I can tell, the story still works perfectly well if you just ignore the final pages and assume that everything is really happening, so that's what I'M gonna do.)

Also, Aspargus32 is getting back to translating bonus stories, so we'll probably see a lot more of those soon, too. Cool, isn't it?

Which reminds me, are there any Italian speakers out there who might be interested in translating some of the bonus content we tend to skip, but which is actually really awesome? We used to do bonus content in blog post-format - like this, this, or this - but only for issues #6-#11.
So if somebody's interested in picking that up again, let me know. If you do the words, I'll take care of the formatting. :)

Big thanks to Banker for continuing to be awesome, and to Aspargus32 for doing the back-up feature. We're still missing back-up features on a lot of the previous issues, so if anyone out there feels like taking them on, I know lots of people will appreciate it.

Also, it only just occurred to me that most of the recent uploads have been CBR-files, and some people might have had trouble opening them. CBR is a format made specifically for reading comics on the computer, and there are are a number of free programs you can use to read them. Me, I use Comical, but I'm sure somebody in the comments can probably make a good argument for any number of the other options.

If you don't want to use any new software, CBR-files can be easily converted to RAR-files, simply by changing the name of the file extension - so you can just change "PKNA19.cbr" to "PKNA19.rar" and it will work.

I'll probably make some RAR-file mirrors one of these days, just to avoid confusion.

ANYWAY - Hi, guys, I am so sorry for abandoning you. I went from having tons of free time to almost none at all, and it also coincided with me moving country - so I was quite distracted, to put it mildly.

Hey, guys. As you may have noticed, there wasn't any update on the 22nd, and I didn't even get around to putting a message up. Sorry about that.

I'm currently working on getting some scans done (Who knew - it's a lot more work when you have to do it yourself (and don't have easy access to a quality scanner)) for one of my prized possesions, which I've never seen scanned before.

It's an illustrated, Italian calender (or PKalendario, as it's called) featuring the Evronians all year round, with all-original art. Ever wanted to know how an Evronian celebrates Halloween? Well, you're about to find out.

Rather than hurrying to get the first part ready here and now, I'll just make sure to have the art for the first 6 months ready by Friday. (I was originally planning to do it 4 months at a time, so it evens out.

You’re at the bus stop and a thick mist just swallowed the shop where you just bought the latest Duck Avenger issue whole? A giant duck-shaped shadow armed like a spear-wielding barbarian passed by instead of the bus? And that shadow is being followed by a small but determined shadow, wrapped in a classic superhero cape? If your answer to all of the above was yes, then the worst is yet to come. Look behind you: the creature could be behind the stop sign. Stay calm: all the creature is doing in Duckburg is… depopulating. And don’t just say that’s it’s doing it because it loves passer-bys. And most importantly, do not misuse the X-Transformer: the controls are set on the bradionic paralyzer.

The Creatures

The battle between the Viking Empire and the Manitu’ people from the other side of the Atlantic is one that’s been going on for centuries. But now things are changing. Definitively.

The laboratories of Thor’s children have created a living synthetic entity capable of penetrating through the natives’ defenses.

It’s called the Creature. It has one goal: To survive, and to devour its only nutrient: Time.

Its victims, whose chronal energy is taken from them, age quickly and grow weak in the cocoons the Creature captures them in. It’s extremely hard to stop it. It’s invisible to electronic tracking devices, and impenetrable to x-rays. Its body can’t be defined. Cold obscurity kept together by neuronal reactions, it’s some kind of blob held by a net, in which floats a mobile brain, which is impossible to track.

It’s a lethal enemy that learns from its mistakes and adapts to each different situation it faces.

Its preys are kept in suspended animation in synthetic cocoons, connected to the mother Creature through a mental net. The psychic-probes inside the cocoons suck out the chronal energy out of the prisoners, depending on the needs of the Creature. It almost works the same way as spiders with insects.

On Urk’s Earth there are no effective weapons against the Creature. The energy spears are just restraining measures. The Bradionic Paralyzer of the X-transformer, on the other hand…

PKNA issue 11 - Angus Tales part 1 / Announcement

Alright, here's the update. It's going to be a two-parter this week. Scroll down for Angus Tales. But first, an announcement of sorts.

As some of you have noticed, a lot of links on this site have been dead for a while. We've lost the first few pages of a lot of issues, and if you try to access them, you just get a dead end.

Unfortunately, it's not a problem we can easily fix, as the posts in question have been removed by BlogSpot, at the request of Disney. It's a fairly automated procedure, so I don't think we'll have lawyers breathing down our necks anytime soon, but just to be on the safe side, we are NOT going to reupload the pages in question. (BlogSpot made it clear to me, in a polite yet firm automated email, that if I simply reupload everything, they might have to shut down my account.)

Obviously, this was always a risk with what we're doing, and obviously the people at Disney are entirely within their rights. We can just hope that the fact they care, means that they might be getting around to PKNA themselves at some point.

So, what does this mean for us in the future? Well, we were always intending to take a step back from PKNA after issue #11, so it doesn't change THAT much. Still, we might slow down a little in the future - especially the very near future, as we try to figure out what to do next.

I've thought about setting up a mailing list, just in case this site suddenly gets shut down. (Hey, you never know.) We might not know what we're going to do YET, but it'd be a shame if we couldn't reach you guys when we figure it out. If you'd like to be added to that kind of list, just write to birch_PKNA@yahoo.com and write 'Mailing list' in the headline.

Any questions, just ask me in the comments. We're still figuring out how to deal with this situation, so we'll see what happens.

(But, hey, maybe this will finally get us to focus on translating the special features for the first few issues. Som maybe SOME good will come out of it.)

A few disturbing words

How does the thought process of high ranking Evronians (the only Evronains that can think on their own) work? For all we know, they believe that mankind’s evolution went from the Mitochondrial Eve – considered the mother of the homo sapiens sapiens, the evolutionary state of today’s man – directly to the duck. It’s not a terrible theory, considering some of the types of people we could name. Also, from a historical and biological standpoint, the concept of progress and regress are pretty lightly used.

But what if the Evronians had studied human evolutions and are trying to copy it, to replace us? No, that’s way too ‘50’s sci-fi’. In fact, the only thing those parasites plan to do is to suck all the energy out of the Earth and then go back into outer space for more. Maybe. It’s always nicer to think of your opponents as imbeciles, just to keep yourself from worrying so much.

Non-Euclidean Geometrics

Was Einstein just a German quarterback? Turn the page, because these are real physics, to the absolute level. We’re talking Evronian geodesics. Forgets every notion of physics you’ve ever accidentally picked up: Our invaders’ perception of reality is much different than ours. The emotional waves they feed off have lengths that go way beyond anything ever measured: only the Evronian perceptive system is capable of picking up the emotional charge of living creatures. But the emotional currents of a planet are too vast to be “seen”. For that reason the Evronians have developed a geometrical system capable of finding the nodes in the currents, with a technique that makes it as easy as finding the centre of a triangle. On this chart you can see an approximate representation of Earth’s obtuseness. As you can tell, the sum of all the internal angles is not 180 degrees but zero, also known as a straight line.

A Voyage Into Nothing

Missing, gone, absent, something which is not there anymore. AKA: empty compartment. The Avenger was there, and a second later he’s gone. Disappeared, taken by the evil claw of nothingness. But where is nothingness? Who knows? Nothingness is not nothing, but it’s a interpretable dimension. Nothing down here, nothing up there, nothing in the pages you’re about to read, nothing in Angus’ head… The universe itself, in the end, is nothingness. Because nothingness is the entrance, but where is the exit? Meh… In the mean time follow the signs and pay the fee to begin this voyage (great metaphor!) then we’ll see.

You’ll find something.

What thing? As One might say: everything is something and nothing is nothing. But a mass of microchips cannot truly understand that nothingness is truly something, as long as it’s like the number zero, or the color black and it has an entrance and an exit. Because if nothingness is real, nothing is more real than nothingness. And it’s best that nothingness happens, because nothingness is now! The Duck Avenger will know this well. Just as long as somebody finds him… And as you can probably tell, we’ve been irreversibly coolflamed…

Does your collection have a few holes? This is what you missed. Just don’t do it again!

ISSUE ZERO: Donald becomes the janitor of the Ducklair Tower and his life changes. He meets artificial intelligences, emotion-sucking aliens, and coolflamed soap opera writers. Nothing will ever be the same.

ISSUE ZERO/1: Secrets and mysteries are revealed en masse, mashed with exhilarating gags. Krampha, Szwarz, Xixt, Vytalix, and Zyke are some characters in never before seen fun adventures.

ISSUE ZERO/2: Strange events are happening in Duckburg, with tachionic disturbances. The Raider discovers how to power up his chronosail and he wants this power at any cost. The Avenger pays the bill.

ISSUE ZERO/3: It's raining Evronians. The going is getting tough... So maybe the Avenger would like to be somewhere else. It's a dirty job, and someone's got to do it. Which is why Xadhoom has made her way to Earth.

ISSUE #1: For the Evronians, Angus is a new energy frontier. For Xadhoom, the fight against the Evronians has no frontiers. The Avengers needs to pass the outer space frontier. A story with lots of frontiers.

ISSUE #2: The dark side of the intelligence reveals itself in all its devastating power. One, but mostly The Avenger, is crushed. For this reason Everett Ducklair is forced to get an airplane ticket Tibet-Duckburg.

ISSUE #3: After the failed attempt with the chronosail, the Raider tries again with the Othership: a means of travel into alternative realities. The Avenger helps him, but we pardon him: he’s just trying to prevent the explosion of the century.

ISSUE #4: Morgan Fairfax, from the Environmental Department, uses federal men and means to create a quake in order to overflow the West coast. Commander Mary Ann Flagstarr is under his orders…but up to what point?

ISSUE #5: The Avenger finds himself fighting against terrifying super Evronians. As bad as this might sound, it gets worse after it turns out he must fight them in the XXIII Century. To find out how he got there ask the mysterious Eidolon.

ISSUE #6: Norman Bates Russel’s field is invaded by weird pumpkins. He wants to show Fangus, but he refuses. If he only knew they were Evronian spores he would do anything to have them, just like the army.

ISSUE #7: Nebula Faraday announces to the maori of Cape Dominion, in New Zealand, the coming of an alien civilization. As proof she shows them a spore. This is a perfect occasion for the Avenger to try his winter clothing.

ISSUE #8: Two is fractioned into thousands of subfiles but, taking advantage of the summer vacation, strange business fusions revolutionize the market. And many files reunite, returning to a frighteningly operative state.

It’s really warm here, but the city is a ghost town so it’s not too bad; Parking places are vacant, the streets are empty, the offices are cal…beep…m, the ice cream stands are f…bzzz…ull of aweso…shwerezzz… one… gniuux… Two… three… zwinx… testing, testing! Good, we finally got through: connection activated.

What you are currently reading has never been written. No human has ever put its sweaty, moist hands on any keyboard on any computer (what an offensive word! Wouldn’t it be more adequate to say “artificial intelligence”? Or, better yet, “superior”?).

Surprised? You shouldn’t be: The time where stupid carbon based individuals could compete with silicon based ones is long past. Give up. And ready yourselves for the worst, when…grrrrrinnn…nothing… will… bzzzz… be… fzxxxx… the… same… zwiiiig…

This machine belongs to that category of inventions that caused their creator, Everett Ducklair, to retire and reinvent himself as a hermit, in order to help him dominate the negative part of his personality.

The initial intent was to create an automated probe for the exploration of hostile terrestrial and extraterrestrial environments. But its excessive defensive structure and the advanced weaponry made the TAU-386 vehicle (so named in Ducklair’s archive) a very dangerous machine.

BIOLOGY

EVRONITES

The word “evronite” is used to describe the spore stage and all the other growth stages in which its internal structure turns to the adult.

This structure, called evronide, acts as if it were a self-aware parasitic/symbiotic entity, morphing the spore’s tissues, and assuming a duckling-like look. Once its appearance is formed, it exits its “container”, destroying the external cortex.

Morphologically and functionally, the evronide is far from the adult stage. Its arms are almost void of coordination and the humongous cranium is totally occupied by tele-empathic convolutions, used by the evronite to absorb nutrition (emotional vibrations).

The beak, which is pretty atrophic in the adult evronian, is functional and is connected to a rudimentary digestive system that allows the evronide to ingest and metabolize small quantities of food: This is probably a trait inherited from some ancestor, since it disappears right after the infant form.

The legs are short and void of articulation, and are only good for short movements, just enough to search for nutrition. Interesting is their total lack of parental necessities. It is speculated that this is because of their predatory nature, which causes them to search not for someone to feed them, but rather for someone to feed off.

What’s left of their parenting instincts is some kind of social imprinting that blindly leads them to obey to whoever they believe is their “parent”, exactly how the Evronian adults accept orders from whoever they think is genetically superior.

With the augmentation of body mass, their outer shell morphs from a reticular-crystal structure to a livery chitinous structure, similar to a one-piece suit.
