BONUS COMICS + MICKEY MOUSE MYSTERY MAGAZINE

Two great things this time: Aspargus32 has finished translations of all the missing bonus stories, AND zvbxrpl has finished the first issue of the very awesome Mickey Mouse Mystery Magazine. (Of course, Duck Avenger translations are still going on. But seriously, check out this bad-ass mouse!)

I love these people.

  1. Does this mean you won't continue on the Duck Avenger stories? I terribly hope you will continue translating the awesome Duck Avenger stroies.

  2. Don't worry, people are still working on PKNA. (I added a note in the main post, just in case other people were getting worried.)

zvbxrpl is just ALSO working on the Mickey Mouse series. And it's made by a lot of the same people who did PKNA, so I figured it would be appropriate to upload it here as well.

  3. Wow... Just... can't find words. You know, I was reading Anderville for months, translating every single word from Italian since I don't know it at all and now... Zvbxrpl is my personal hero. Honestly.

  4. All right, I finally got those sentences from The Little Prince figured out. Now I can get to work on Issue 20 for real.

I'll be sure to have it ready before Christmas.

  5. Opps, I just noticed I used my German translation for the "Sub-Paperoidi" in the Burton La Valle story from issue 18. Since Papero = Duck, it should be something along the lines of "Sub-Duckoids".
I really should proofread this stuff more thoroughly.

    @Banker
I started my translation on issue 20 a few days after you posted the stuff about "The little Prince", so I assumed you already had found the official translations by then. The ones I found were:

    For page 10:

Quando tu guarderai il cielo, la notte, visto che io abitero' in una di esse, visto che io ridero' in una di esse, allora sara' per te come se tutte le stelle ridessero. Tu avrai, tu solo, delle stelle che sanno ridere!

In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night... you-- only you-- will have stars that can laugh!

    For page 11:

"Mi domando", disse, "se le stelle sono illuminate perche' ognuno possa un giorno trovare la sua. Guarda il mio pianeta, e' proprio sopra di noi... Ma come e' lontano!"

"I wonder," he said, "whether the stars are set alight in heaven so that one day each one of us may find his own again... Look at my planet. It is right there above us. But how far away it is!"

    For page 64:

"E quando ti sarai consolato (ci si consola sempre), sarai contento di avermi conosciuto. Sarai sempre il mio amico. Avrai voglia di ridere con me. E aprirai a volte la finestra, cosi', per il piacere... E i tuoi amici saranno stupiti di vederti ridere guardando il cielo. Allora tu dirai: "Si, le stelle mi fanno sempre ridere!" e ti crederanno pazzo.

"And when your sorrow is comforted (time soothes all sorrows) you will be content that you have known me. You will always be my friend. You will want to laugh with me. And you will sometimes open your window, so, for that pleasure... and your friends will be properly astonished to see you laughing as you look up at the sky! Then you will say to them, 'Yes, the stars always make me laugh!' And they will think you are crazy.

Though, there are only parts of the official text used on page 64, not the whole paragraph.

  10. I just finished reading the MMMM issue and have to say this truly is a piece of art. Thanks for this great translation, zvbxrpl.

It reminds me a bit of the "Ein Fall für Micky" comics, that were released in the mid 90s, though they were more focused on the riddle solving aspect of detective stories and the art style wasn't as sophisticated (I seem to be incapable of finding out if this series was released anywhere else than Germany and what it's been called in other languages)

  11. a question: why did Alfredo McEsposito's surname became "simply" Esposito?

on a side note, "Cavoli"(Cabbage) is a typical Italian exclamation of surprise

    ReplyDelete
  12. I took the liberty of changing McEsposito's surname because it didn't really make much sense. Esposito is a typical surname from Campania, while Mc is Gaelic affix. Instead of this mish-mash of origins I left him with a more realistic sounding name, since to a non-italian ear Alfredo Esposito would sound foreign enough.

  13. To answer you Asparagus32 the series Ein Fall fur Micky was also released in Greece, Denmark and Finland i think. Me , I am from Greece and I have many issues of the series in Greek , i've been killing myself to find them all ,

Is there anyway there could be any english translations of them ?

  14. Thanks a lot, I sadly do own just two or three issues. It was a few years after they were sold, that me and my brother realized how good these stories were compared to the usual Disney stuff (stupid 10 year old me, not able to recognize good comics).

I didn't find any translations in my short search yesterday, but I'll keep my eyes open.

So, One, you absolutely refuse to let Xadhoom into the secret floor, but you're okay with an evronian? What the hell, dude?

    Next up, the 1998 special.

  17. @Asparagus32: I have some issues of this "Ein Fall für Micky" in Finnish. Only 10 issues were translated to Finnish - I don't know if there were more in some other language - and I have 7 of them (lacking #2,3 and 8).

I just read Anderville, and it was great. Not as good as PKNA, but still a helluva lot better than most Disney stuff.
