PKNA #29, a bonus story - and German comics

Potentially very exciting news for German readers: The new Lustiges Taschenbuch Premium is out - and it collects the first four issues of PKNA along with a few bonus stories, some of which have never been published in German before!

Now, how awesome would it be to have an official German translation of the PKNA series? I know the series was originally cancelled after issue #12, but if there's enough interest in these premium books, Germany might actually see the series continue past that point. They might even finally do the whole series!

So if you're German, hurry out and buy this thing! Let's show Disney that there's a market for our favorite series in Germany, and that there's good reason to continue the series past this first book.

Heck, if Germany starts selling PKNA again, it might spread to other countries as well. And I know of quite a few European countries where the fans were disappointed when the series ended too soon.

Oooh, and also:

PKNA#29 - Virus

And

#27 Bonus story: 5Y - Gossip

Banker and Aspargus32 are awesome as always. By the way, did you see that Banker is planning a motion comic based on 'Fragments of Autumn'?

  1. What a coincidence. I just read Fragments of Autumn, finished it about 10 minutes ago... and it's f*cking awesome! I'm not sure if I'd consider it the best of them all, but it's definitely in top 3. Truly one of the deepest and most artistic stories among the PKNA issues. Reminds me why I love this series so much. Thank you once again for translating it!

  2. Thanks a lot, Birch, for putting this info about the German re-release to the front. The more people who know about this opportunity the better.

@Banker: I'll make the scan of issue 30 in the next few days. I also ordered the special issues #3 and #4 so I'll have them ready in 2-3 weeks. I'm still missing issue 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 48 and 49 so you might need another source for these if I dont' find them anywhere in time.

  3. So, next up, second issue I ever read. How appropriate for it to be named "Phase Two".

    @Asparagus32

I read ya. I'll be prepared with the written translation in the meantime.

  4. One thing I noticed when I re-read the first few Issues from the german LTB release was the repeated mentioning of Huey, Dewey and Louie being on some kind of Mission for their Junior Woodchucks taking them from the Arctic to Africa. I distinctly remember already noticing this back when, because a simultaneously (at least in Germany) released JW-Comic had the exact same Story, some Aliens trying to take over the Earth, with the first three issues taking place at the north pole and in Africa. Does anybody know if this is intentional and whether both series take place in the same universe? Unfortunately, I have no Idea how it was called in other languages, but in Germany the comic was "U.F.F. - Unternehmen Fähnlein Fieselschweif": http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unternehmen_F%C3%A4hnlein_Fieselschweif

Also, on a side note, I know I'm not part of the actual translation team but as a thank you I started translating the first Paperinik Comic from the uncensored Topolino Scans posted a while ago. I always start to feel bad if everybody else is doing the entire work alone^^

    1. The appearance of Huey, Dewey and Louie in PKNA #0/3 is intentional, because the Disney Italia wanted to create an unique universe with a solid continuity in his new stories.

The magazine that you mention is the Italian "GM - Giovani Marmotte" magazine:

  6. Well... Now I'm caught up. Just read the 29th issue. It was a great action-fest with some nice plot twists. Also the action-introduction of Ziggy, one of my favourite supporting characters. The next time he appears (I think) is one of my favourite issues.

  7. That reminds me, we should really have an English-speaking forum for PKNA where we can have discussions about issues and characters and such...

... and now you're all looking at me because I suggested it.

    Sigh.

I'll look into it in the future.

  8. A forum might be a great idea. It would definitely make things more organized than talking only per comments on this page. (No offense, Birch, this blog is incredible, it's just not that optimal for talking)

I once helped organize a php forum, but I never helped actually build it from scratch, so I wont be a big help here.

  9. I was just searching for Scans of the GM-Comics i mentioned before and then I found this: http://pkhack.altervista.org/news1.htm

I'm not sure what to make of it, because I don't speak any italian, but as far as I could understand it from similarities to other languages (and the Google Translator), Disney Italia has started this year with "PK Il Mito" ("PK The Myth") which is essentially a reprint of ALL the comics from all three series in chronological order. Maybe this was the reason for the re-release in Germany, and maybe other countries might catch up and follow the italian releases.

  10. Yeah, they started doing that February 6th. Good for you italians, you lucky bastards...

I do hope it happens in other countries. Mine was fortunate enough to print the entire series and then later REPRINT it, though the latter was cancelled midway...
And I was stupid enough not to buy issues while I had the change.

    I hate myself.

  11. This sounds very interesting and could be an alternative source for scans.

This concludes the Lyla Lay bonus stories. Coming up next: "I am Xadhoom"

  14. Ah, the only non-comedy bonus stories. There's nothing to make fun of about genocide and coldblooded revenge and the empty, cold space such...

Not falling behind. I'll have Issue 30 itself up soon enough.

  15. Don't worry, I'll adapt to your pace with the bonus stories. It's not like I don't have anything else to work with (especially since I'm about 5 issues behind with my German translations).

#30 was also the fist bonus story until now, in which Donald appeared.

  16. Oh yeah, that's true. This bonus story is also the first one I REMEMBER reading.

I'm sure I also read The Tree of Jacob, but I had no memory of it. It wasn't until I saw the image of the owl judge staring into my soul that I got kinda reminded of having seen it before.

Probably just a coincidence, that this owl in a completely unreleated webcomic is also a lawyer.

  18. So I take it that it's not a coincidence that it took 22 issues for Two to return?

    PKNA#30 - Phase Two:

Could have gotten it up sooner. Was busy trying to buy Swedish scans of the internet and having talks with potential voice actors.

  19. A forum would be awesome. I need a place where I can talk about PKNA with people who actually know what I'm talking about.

Also, thanks a lot for another treat!

  20. I love you guys you know that ;P Banker there's a blank bubble on page 26, just thought you should know.

  22. Wow. Zotnam is made of pure epicness. I LOVE this character. Thank you guys for your work!

Oh, and I think that there is still a small error on page 52, central panel: it seems that the text in bubbles should be swapped (Zukkon accuses Krauton, but he changes his mind immediatelly afterwards?)

    Anyway, GREAT JOB!

    1. Yeah, I was wondering that too. It's like that though in the original version, and the Swedish one was like that too.

      Guess it's a mistake.

    2. Yes, this is an error in the original text. There was something similar in issue 21 on page 41.
I guess it's just bound to happen sometimes if texter and illustator change as often as they do during this series.

  23. ... alright, this is embarrassing.

Is it Donald or Odin who's talking to Photomas in Page 65, Panel 1 in Fragments of Autumn?

    I'm honestly not sure.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It should be Donald who's talking, since Photomas is adressed in the second person plural (voi-form), which is the honorific form used in these comics.

In the next panel Odin Eidolon adresses Photomas in the secon person singular (tu-form) which is rather personal.

It wouldn't make much sense to switch between the two forms over the course of two sentences, if the same person is speaking. It happens sometimes in these comics, but mostly if a person gets extremely angry and stops using the voi-form to hurl insults *cough* Colonell Westcock *cough*

      Delete
    2. Oh yeah, okay, I was leaning towards Donald... I didn't see why Odin would have negative thoughts towards Photomas, since he hired him...

The speech bubble just seemed to be pointing right at Odin.

There's some other panels too, but I think I got them figured out.

  25. Does anyone know where those original PKNA covers come from? The ones without the logo and everything...

Been making wallpapers out of them, though I'm only limited to what people have posted on the web...

    1. The original Disney site where those cover come from no longer exist.

  26. the german re - print in the ltb - premium ... mhhhm - i dont think that disney is starting to print the whole series of the duck avenger in german. i saw the book in the supermarket and it contains the first five stories chronolonical an then some konrad kiwi bonus stories and than, finally, an extract of the second duck avenger special "zero slash one", the short story where duck avenger says goodbye to gyro gearloose ... - so when they jump from the first issues of the series to an extract of "zero slash one", than i dont think that they continue the re - print.
I DONt KNOW WHY!!! so great comics.
