PK2 #15 - The True Enemy

You might have missed issue #14, which was just put up yesterday. Scroll down a bit and you'll find it.

ANDNOWBANKER'SBACK!

PK2 #15 - The True Enemy

Also known as "The Quadrilogy - Episode 1". Which means that, after this, there are only three issues remaining...

  1. Q'Wynkennon, why do you gotta talk like some fuck? It's gibberish, but it sorta makes sense so I gotta create an English gibberish version of it...

Any Italians want to help me find out what the fuck that robot says in the next issue? Otherwise, I'll just write "Fuck it" in his speech bubbles.

    Oh, by the way, spoilers.

  2. Wish I could help but I don't speak Italian. Only thing I could find out was that his speech is based on a dialect from Broni.

    1. We are in urgent need of some Italian friend with interest in their fumetti to be known in the rest of the world. I read that there is no only Pikappa left, but also other series, as the nineties "Paperinik", and the 2000s "Paperinik il Mito" (about 30 issues) and "Paperinik Cult", the latter of which reaches our days with about 77 issues. The latter two are difficult to find even in Italian.

    2. What are you talking about?

"Paperinik il Mito" reprints PKNA, PK2 and Pikappa. No need to translate it, since the stories are already translated!

"Paperinik" and "Paperinik Cult" contain stories with the classic Paperinik. I don't think it would interest the blog's readers...

    3. You seem to be right with "Il mito", but at least "Paperinik Cult" includes both classic Paperinik stories, as well as some from PKNA, PK2 and PK-Pikappa, and, most interestingly, new stories with the characters from PKNA, PK2 and PK-Pikappa (See this cover stating "Storia nuova": http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4bF3ZyGjt0M/Tj1dz5tSLxI/AAAAAAAAByA/8OegYGtJK_0/s1600/pk76.jpg). I downloaded number 8 in Italian and it contains a story I have never seen before including the PKNA characters.

Besides, as far as I know, the classic Paperinik appeared in the "Topolino" magazine, and in the last "Paperinik" magazine the covers (http://www.comicvine.com/paperinik/49-30013/) suggest some awesomeness or approach to the PKNA style.

    4. Inducks does not list any character of PKNA, PK2 or Pikappa in this issue: http://coa.inducks.org/issue.php?c=it/PKC++76

    5. Right, the number I attempted to mean was 53. Here I attach download link in case you want to check whether or not the story is new or appeared before in PKNA, PK2, or Pikappa: http://www.mediafire.com/?ftbslo14raju8oi

I do not remember having seen it in all the numbers I checked.

    6. http://coa.inducks.org/issue.php?c=it/PKC++53 reveals that the stories you are referring to comes from Pikappa #5/6 (Pikappa is referred to as PK3 for story code purposes).

      Delete
    7. Ok., these are two of the Pikappas I do not have, that explains it. There is a new story after all (pages 1-26) but it is pre-PKNA in appearance.

  3. They look like kids.

Also, dead God, woman, Everett's not winning any parent of the year awards, but you're pretty much crazy.

...I though his name was Zardos. Make up your miiiiinds!

    1. Gotta be awkward when your kids in later years look more adult than you...

Well, apparently his name is Everett Zardoz Ducklair. He uses both in this issue.

Now about the reason for leaving... Honestly, I first suspected that his daughters had been chosen to be sacrificed to Space God, and then Everett was all like "Coronianity is such a shitty religion" and yeah...

Though this is fucked up too.

      Delete
    2. Everett Zardoz Ducklair

That's convinient. On the bright side, it does make it easier to ignore this: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Zardoz

The thing that really puts it into 'what the fuck is wrong with you' territory is the fact that it was an experimental machine. It might not even work.

      Delete
    3. It's more that he first introduces himself as Everett Ducklair, THEN introduces himself as Zardoz, to which his wife-to-be answers he's already introduced himself as. More feels like a fuckup on the writer or letterer.

And isn't it possible that there could have been other men involved as I just figured him and his wife to be of short stature (much like Donald and those designed around him). So she might've been cheating on him.

Or they just thought taller alien-buck were sexier than short ones. I think I'm on to something. That, and human feet.

      Delete
    4. When do we even see short female ducks in this series?... not counting that fucking whore in that special...

I believe Serifa's the only one. Can't think of anyone else. I guess they didn't want little ED's wife to be way taller than him...

I'm just saying that most men aren't quite comfortable dating women who are noticeably superior in height.

Which is why I usually say
"Hey, Donald! Tempest Gale. Hit that. Now."
The pairing just seems more realistic to me cuz they're about the same height.

But yeah, I'll definitely go with that cheating theory, because... dark.

      Delete
    5. Except that Tempest can be quite a bit taller all depending on artist. Which is sort of how I've come to see her. But I'd still say he should hit that.

      Delete
    6. ... usually about the same height.

      Delete
    7. ...huh, pretty much all the women are tall in this series. Never noticed that.

If Serifa cheated, she somehow found Everett's twin. Just look at Korinna. The kids are like taller (and in one case, female) copies of their parents.

This is assuming the kids were born naturally, and not created in a pod to avoid emotional attachment.

    8. just note how Donald's One True(Doomed) Love in Italy is Reginella, who's shorter than him...
Actually, I don't think she ever appeared in any story outside Italy

      Delete
    9. Oh, no, she did in Finland. A couple of stories, I don't know if there are more in Italian. I remember thinking that they were really good, but I don't remember a lot of details, it's been several years since I last read them.

      Delete
    10. I also know her from germany. Damn, those stories were good. I just never read the first one, how he got to know her, though.

      Delete
  4. Why would she cheat if she is so good at oppressing her emotions...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Apparently she's not, cause she's a pretty angry lady.

So angry she needed to blow off some steam...

      Delete
    2. Well, no wonder she didn't become queen, then.

  5. Now THAT was agood issue. Probably my favourite in PK2. This one had some proper depth and interesting themes, it explained many mysteries, provided character development for at least one character, and overall I just really like it.

    1. I forgot to mention, one of the things I like about this issue is that it breaches into one of the Disney taboo areas: having children. I find it amusing that sex is such a taboo subject that they have to go as far as avoiding traditional families (everyone in the traditional Disney comics is either single or at best going out, the children are always from brothers or sisters who never appear in the comics, and so on). PK has already ignored a number of taboos, and with this, we can cross over one of the few remaining on the list.

      Delete
    2. "I want you to become a mother" is surely a nicer way of saying "let's fuck".

      Delete
    3. More like 'let's make it official that we fuck'.

...What? He did say they were lovers. Premarital sex. Would that be another taboo down?

      Delete
    4. There hasn't really been any taboo when it comes to Disney and have children. It's just that it's more convenient to throw in some kids and say "hey, here's Donald's nephews" than to say, "hey, here's Donald's until now unknown children". Also, Donald's generally considered to be around 20 years, maybe a wee bit older, in his earlier years. It would also need an established relationship for Donald should he be a father (and most likely a marriage, that's an old time thing I'd agree to), which probably would have been problematic (the nephews being created about three years before Daisy and he'd needed to be married to that pesky woman!). Same goes for Mickey in a way, with him and Minnie defined as definitely not married and also being quite young in the earlier years (the strip puts them as being in their late teens). Then again, Mickey's nephews are just visiting thier uncle from time to time rather than living permanently with him.

    5. "Lovers" doesn't necessarily have to have sexual implications.

The English language doesn't exactly have a good words for two people who are together...

      Delete
    6. Not necessarily, but that is how it's normally used. I was joking though.

Well, there's 'we became a couple', 'she became my girlfriend', 'we started dating'... but I like 'lovers', it sounds more serious, no matter how you interpret it.

  6. Hello, i've been looking for a powerduck comic where there's some kind of big robot who's nice with people, and somehow he dies at the end, and i think the last panel is PK standing over his grave, it's been in my head for a while now, i read it when i was a kid, i just need some kind of title or issue number, thanks if anyone bothers to help me ^^

    1. Huh. If Pikappa really has stories like that...

Maybe I'll have to consider the whole translation thing one day.

    2. What's the deal with Pikappa anyway? You said it's a reboot? What's changed? I happened to find one issue some time ago (in Italian), and it doesn't look at all different from the first series. :/

      Delete
    3. They're just starting over again without including characters like Xadhoom and Raider.

      Bummer.

      Delete
    4. I have no idea what pikappa is, in case i didn't explain myself well, i saw it about 10 years ago, and it might have been released earlier.

      Delete
    5. Well, I'm just assuming, but that series came out ten years ago, and I see that one of the first issues has a big robot on the cover. Is this it?

  7. Duck Avenger gets a new origin story, one is back and whatever happened in PKNA / PK² hasn't any relevance in Pikappa. As a Star trek fan I'm now used to such things ;).

    1. Also, everything that happened before PKNA didn't happen in Pikappa.

    2. I'm also a Star Trek Fan but still I'll never get used to people shitting on franchises...

  8. And further on about Pikappa...

I read on TVtropes that in one issue Donald is really mad and actually considers killing someone.

... kay, this reboot is apparently missing some of my favorite characters, but it sounds pretty cool.

    1. You are talking about number 12, I think...
I bought it from Venice 2-3 years ago.

      Delete
    2. Yep, that sounds pretty cool.

I browsed through the one issue that I have and noticed that not only is One back, Lyo is also there, and more badass than ever. The story itself in that particular issue (#15) doesn't seem greatly interesting, though, looks like a very simple action plot.

      Delete
    3. Yeah, I read that the series does some interesting stuff with Lyonard d'Aq.

He never really got much character development in PK2.

      Delete
  9. I think there is a good reason Xadhoom and Raider aren't in this (they aren't in PK² either btw, if they don't mysteriously come up in the missing three issues): They have told what they wanted to tell about them. They both have complete story lines and recycling them just cause wouldn't do them all too good.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. True. There are plenty of characters with potential for more development, whose stories don't feel complete yet, but Xadhoom and Raider pretty much achieved their potential and their stories are complete. What Pikappa needed instead was to introduce other, just as interesting characters, or do something useful with the numerous characters whose great potential was never realised. I don't know if they managed that.

      Delete
    2. Gorthan seems to be getting a much bigger role in Pikappa.

That's a plus in at least my book!

      Delete
    3. Well, technically the Raider is in Pikappa.

It's just that it's now Kronin who's donning that costume.

But yeah, I do like how some characters get much more panel time in this one. Only a few, though, as far as I know.
